How We Rate Dating Sites

Every site gets a score from 1 to 10 on five criteria. The overall score is a weighted average, with the most weight on whether real people are there and whether you'll be safe.

Real, active members30%Size and activity of the member base, share of verified or complete profiles, and how many people near you are a fit for your goal.
Safety and privacy25%Photo or ID verification, blocking and reporting tools, discreet billing, and the company's data-breach history.
Value20%What a paid month costs, how much the free version lets you do, and how easy it is to cancel.
Matching and features15%How well the site helps you find a fit: matching, filters, events, prompts and video.
Ease of use10%Signup time, app quality and how quickly a new member can start talking to people.

Where our information comes from

  • Each site's own pricing, help and safety pages.
  • App store listings.
  • Independent reporting on ownership, data breaches and company news.
  • Hands-on testing. Reviews that include our own test say so at the top; the rest are marked as research-based until our test is done.

Every review lists its sources at the bottom. Prices were last checked in October 2026. They change often, so always confirm at checkout.

What doesn't affect scores

We earn commissions from some sites. Commissions never change a score or a ranking, and we review and rank sites that pay us nothing, including Hinge, Bumble and Tinder. See our affiliate disclosure.
